Chapter 3

It was a housekeeping error. Slip-ups happen at even the best hotels. The

chambermaid came to clean Steven’s room two mornings later and forgot to leave

fresh towels. Steven thought of going downstairs to request the towels and bringing

them back upstairs himself, but the reality was that he had a hangover.

The night before, after spending his third glorious evening in Brandon’s bed

and arms, he had told the resort owner he would return as the assistant manager if

Brandon would just let him go home, pack his things, and put his house up for sale.

There were numerous details to attend to. Brandon had reacted by calling down to

room service and ordering up champagne to celebrate. And Steven had

overindulged.

Now, headachy and out of sorts, he didn’t feel like traipsing downstairs to get

the towels, and a look up and down the hallway failed to reveal a housekeeping

service cart anywhere on the floor. So he called downstairs to the front desk and

requested the towels that had been omitted. When Steven answered the subsequent

knock at the door, assuming it was someone from housekeeping, he was surprised

to see Brandon standing there bearing the towels he’d requested.

“Special delivery!” Brandon sang out, his green eyes twinkling, and one of

them briefly closing in that now-familiar, endearing wink of his. “I was at the front

desk when you called. I brought the towels up myself.” Naturally, he entered the

room, and Steven shut the door.

“What else did you bring me?” Steven asked with a meaningful glance at

Brandon’s crotch.

“No time for fun and games now, babe, I’m afraid. Till you come back and

take over as assistant manager, I’m doing that job as well as my own.”

“Awwww!” Steven mock pouted.

“When I heard you needed towels, I brought them myself,” Brandon said,

explaining briefly the circumstances that had led to his coming upstairs. “Always

happy to see you and get at least a kiss. But it’ll have to be just a kiss till tonight.

Then we can have fun.” He kissed Steven lovingly on the lips and headed for the

door. Steven dumped the towels on the bed and walked Brandon the short distance

to the door.

Brandon opened the door. Steven kissed him again. Brandon kissed him back

fiercely. And just then, a few doors down the hall, Joshua and Benjamin emerged

from their shared hotel room and saw the couple kissing.

One of them—or maybe it was both of them—gasped so loudly that Steven

heard the sound and whipped his head around. But there was no taking back what

the two young men had just seen.

To say, “All hell broke loose” would be an understatement.

“We warned you he’d try to convert you!”

“Mom’s barely been dead for two months!”

“You’re grieving. You don’t know what you’re doing!”

“How could you?”

And then to Brandon, he snarled, “Keep your filthy hands off our father.”

Steven tried to defend Brandon and tell his boys that he was a very willing

participant. He tried to tell them that what he did and who he did it with, as a

consenting adult, was none of their business.

They weren’t having any of it.

“We’re leaving this place today!” they declared in unison and retreated to their

room to pack and change their plane reservations.
